In innovation news, South African researchers develop a low-cost, disposable water filter. Scientists at Stellenbosch University have created a teabag-shaped water filter containing carbon granules. The bag itself has a coating on the inside that works to remove pathogens. Each teabag filter can be placed inside the neck of a typical liter bottle. It is envisioned that it will be used to provide clean drinking water during emergencies and for populations without access to potable water. The devices are biodegradable, with the costs of the raw material needed coming to less than half a US cent each. A big green applause, Stellenbosch University researchers, for your eco-friendly invention. We wish you best of luck in producing and distributing your creation to help improve the well-being of many.
