I have visited the charming and historical towns of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek.All of them are wine regions which offer the most amazing scenery and are steeped in history dating back to the 1600s ( one of the oldest cementry in South Africa is located in Paarl)…The best South African wines-:)

Entry from: Stellenbosch, South Africa Entry Title: “Wine Tour” Entry: “Finally got round to adding a bit about the tour to go with the photos. Well I went out again the night before the tour but I ate a pile of toast and drank loads of water before I went to bed so I didn’t feel too bad the next day. It was another beautiful day and our driver picked us up at nine from outside our flats. Is was just our group and a retired American couple who were real wine conisurs. We were shown round the first winery and then th tour guid took us down to the cellers and let us taste a load of different wines. There was every kind of wine you could imagine. We learnt the difference between wine matured in woodbarrels and stainless steel barriers, filtered wine and unfiltered wine, port etc. The couple we were with were going on about tropical fruits and asparagus and all kinds of complex flavors and wine making techniques we’d never heard of. It was definitely educational. I like the sweet wines and ports that we tasted at the end. From there we went on to another Winery which had its own vinyards and a beautifully decorated restaurant. We sat outside and had a gorgeous cheese platter, which as usual for hear was enormous and very good value, and they kept on bringing us wine to taste. I say a taste but it was …
